What Are Storage Tanks?

Storage tanks are basically containers that are used for keeping water or any other liquid. Storage tanks can also be used as reservoirs of water, gas, petroleum or some other liquid. In the United States of America, a storage tank will operate under no or little pressure. This separates them from the pressurized vessels. Normally the storage tanks have cylindrical shape with flat bottoms. The design and types of storage tanks depend on the type of fluid that it will contain. This design and type of storage tanks are made following the environmental rules and governmental policies.

Storage tanks can be of many types. Reservoirs are generally underground storage tanks or overhead tanks. There are cylindrical, square, vertical and horizontal storage tanks with open or closed tops. While small storage tanks can have various shapes, larger tanks are mostly cylindrical and vertical in shape. Storage tanks are used for various purposes.
